Zen for Western Minds

Hello,
My name is Daniel Everett. I am the primary writer here at "Zen for Western Minds." I am a Zen practitioner of three years, and a student of mindfulness for over a decade. I am a rare soul in the sense that I have also been diagnosed with a Serious and Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI). This Zen mindfulness has helped me greatly, and it can help you too. Keep reading, and find something deeper within yourself.
What we aim to do here
We very much want this website and it's content to inspire calm, if even for a moment. It's true that calm takes practice, so how do we get there? We hope to answer that question for you (or for anyone with a severe mind), and lead as many people as will listen to a sense of peace within, or as we call it, "Stillness Within Stillness." We will then move on to intuition and "awakening" as a deeper kind of knowing that arises out of inner sensitivity and introspection.

There will be short posts about this path, as we see it, attempting to leave them as uncensored as is necessary and fitting for a discussion about serious matters. This path is essential for those who are trapped in their minds, and just can't get free from the nagging feeling that somehow the world left them far behind (of course we all encounter this on some level).
I realize I mentioned mental health, but these principles will be valuable to anyone with even a glimmer of desire for peace. We hope you can get some use out of this site, whoever you are. Keep searching...
You will find.
