Let me start by saying Merry Christmas to all who celebrate. Sometimes we forget how special Jesus really was. He has inspired many great nations, and taught us loving kindness, even in the depths of despair. Let’s take this holiday seriously, and remember him.

There are a lot of people who have written off the whole Christian notion of redemption and freedom, but I say, at the very least, we can respect that he was a great teacher. I have a little picture of him next to my shrine to help me remember my roots. At times, I have also questioned the stories, but today I feel very close to heaven. Sometimes it’s hard to find our way, especially amidst all the conflicting opinions and viewpoints in a world where the three poisons reign. In Buddhism, the three poisons are hatred, greed, and ignorance. I am a firm believer that Jesus opposed these poisons too.

Whether we’re celebrating with family, friends, or alone in our apartments; we can be sure we are seen. If you are alone, spend some time meditating. Don’t write off the season entirely. Be with God in your heart, or with the Buddha, or with Jesus, and have the courage to take the next step.

May the holidays find you well, Merry Christmas.
