This current election cycle has me, once again, convinced of our domination by ego. Every person, every group, every brain is occupied by a selfish and hostile ego. It only speaks of itself and will tell us over and over what it wants, whether or not it’s good for anyone else. This is a humbling we must endure; our brains are mostly unwise. Ram Das explains that thoughts are a continuous current that catches our conscious attention and lures it from the present moment. Thoughts are not us, they simply happen to us. We can’t progress if we keep referencing our small selves, all the while expecting that some outside force is going to intercede. I do believe that God does stir the pot for the better sometimes, but largely the world is ours and WE have to make it better. The divisiveness that has crept into our hearts, from the egoic mind, is destroying our peace.

Richard Rohr, In his discussion on developing the different stages of spirituality, intuitively states that both sides, while meaning well, are stuck in ego and self reference. Of course, the further development of spirituality is one of unity. This is why Jesus said to pray for our enemies and love our neighbors. We are not just individuals, and we are not just little communities. We are the one Earth. We wake up, one soul at a time, until there are no violent souls left. But, as more of us pray for unity, we can bring the community with us. Pray for unity, people, and God will see us through. Don’t be afraid of the unknown, just do you in good faith and PRAY FOR UNITY! We all have growing to do.

Peace, and every good thing…
