The eternal energy of the living universe is of course love. Meditation will help us tap into this resource. If we are loved, warm and well fed what else can we ask for? So much of our society is focused on attaining, but if we have those three things , we have all we need to be happy. Maybe the pursuit of more is what makes us unhappy. If we need too much, then we need too much.

Agapic love shows us, and tells us, that we will be taken care of. Agape is Divine love. It is unconditional love and consideration for all. What else do we need? The eternal love energy of the universe is not a concept. You can experience this with a practice. Silent prayer, meditation, yoga, or whatever sincere spiritual practice you find will undoubtedly lead you to this energy. Use it to work on yourself, and you will be encouraged.

Yahweh (the Hebrew name for God) is breath itself. It is the breath of God within us all. Do what you must, but come back to breath. Slow down, breathe, return to your body. I am confident that there is a place for you in peace. If we just have a glimmer of desire, we can get started. Divine love is the nature of Divine breath. It is everywhere. You can grow confident of this. This breath cannot be harmed, so fear no opposition.

Yahweh is a perfect counterbalance to the turmoil of life, especially mental illness. Experience reveals to us that this is true. All we have to do is take time out of our day and breathe, to sit and breathe. Some teachers say to observe thoughts, this is helpful, but I practice ignoring thoughts. The thinking mind happens to us. It is not us. There is no need to analyze, just sit and breathe. In my experience as someone with mental health diagnoses, stillness can seem threatening, because that’s when the brain begins. Observe your breath and maintain it, and you can avoid this. It’s not easy at first, but eventually breath will take over. Be available to Divine Presence.

People talk about, “the grace of God,” all I know is that a sunrise on a cool autumn morning amidst the changing leaves can be called nothing else. I realize I have mentioned pantheism as a viewpoint about God and the universe, but it is equally possible to me that it is something closer to panentheism, which refers to the universe and everything else. What is everything else? Spirit and mind. We cannot know what else there is, but panentheism believes in something beyond; God and everything else. However, specific labels are not really all that useful once you know a relationship with love, peace and compassion.

Our relationship to God, or Yahweh, or Brahman is one of mentorship, companionship, and friendship. A mentor teaches us the wisdom necessary for the journey, a companion accompanies us on our path, and a friend enjoys our company along the way. This is important to internalize, or we will continue to equate God to a dictator "in the sky." Again, do what you must, but return to breath.

Peace to you and yours.
