Breath and the “Jewel”

When we follow ego, ego is in charge. When we follow breath, life is in charge. Breath is a connection to the greater. I have learned recently that in ancient Hebrew, the words for breath and spirit were the same. So the Bible can be re-interpreted. Instead of, “the Spirit of God:” “the Breath of God.” I have been toying with that notion for sometime. It’s nice to get some confirmation. Of course, we are that breath too, just one small particle of it though.

This is why breathing meditation is important. We train ourselves to listen to our breath, to feel our breath, to be our breath so that we can unite to our living universe and each other. If we follow breath we will unite to our deepest selves. If we follow ego we will divorce from our deepest selves, from life itself. Ego really is that inner devil that so many of us are afraid of. It’s not complicated. We just ignore the ego and follow breath. Our thoughts will betray us, but breath is always with us. it really is that simple.

God is not concerned with the politics of man’s ego. It is concerned with waking one more person, in one more place, and then doing it again and again and again. We can have our opinions, that will never go away, but to decide in our minds what “we” want is a mistake. We must discover who love is first, not just what we read about it. Practice, practice, practice is a worthy path to knowledge. Really, it’s the only path.

I have been using the term “God” over the last few posts, but I just want to continue saying that we have to be careful when we use it, because of the images it conjures. It does not seem likely to me that the essence of love and life, breath and being itself is anything like a dictator on a throne somewhere in the sky, throwing wrathful thunder bolts at sinners for all eternity. We have to get away from that idea before we can go deeper into love and into faith. Who is this god that wants to set everyone on fire?? This idea has formed our divisive politics and our intolerance for diversity for centuries.

The living universe is like a rich, clear bell ringing into eternity. Don’t impede the ringing of life. Let others be who they are. Let others believe what they wish. Each life is a microcosm of the great universe. Each one is life, whether we agree with it or not. Each life rings exactly how it rings. Each bell is already a perfect example of exactly what it is. It’s not necessary to preach a dogma to life, because dogmas are often too complicated, and life is already alive. Let the law of the land rule society. Otherwise, let it be.

The Zen feeling I have mentioned before is when we ring in unison with the universe. The next stage in human evolution will be when we all ring together. This is the essence within, not a ruling party. It is like a fabulous jewel seen from many angles, where its facets reflect its inner light in many directions. We’re inside this jewel, This jewel is the living universe…
